Vietnam Itinerary: 4-Day vs 7-Day Trip Plans Compared

BlogVietnam Itineraries

The number of days you have is the single biggest factor in planning a Vietnam itinerary - it decides whether you focus on one region or attempt a north-to-south journey. Here's how a 4-day trip compares to a 7-day (and longer) plan, with sample day-by-day itineraries for each.

Vietnam Itinerary: 4 Days

A 4-day Vietnam itinerary works best as a single-region trip. Trying to cover multiple cities in 4 days usually means more time in transit than sightseeing, so most travellers pick one of two options:

Option A - Phu Quoc Beach Break

  • Day 1: Arrive Phu Quoc, check in, evening at Duong Dong Market
  • Day 2: Vinwonders Theme Park and beach time
  • Day 3: Cable car ride to Hon Thom Island, Grand World in the evening
  • Day 4: Kiss Bridge, free time, departure

Option B - Hanoi + Halong Bay

  1. Day 1: Arrive Hanoi, Old Quarter walk, Water Puppet Show
  2. Day 2: Temple of Literature, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Hoan Kiem Lake
  3. Day 3: Day trip or overnight cruise to Halong Bay
  4. Day 4: Return to Hanoi, departure

Royal Arabian's 3N/4D Phu Quoc package matches Option A closely and is one of the most affordable ways to experience Vietnam on a short trip. See current pricing in our Vietnam tour package cost from India guide.

Vietnam Itinerary: 7 Days

A 7-day itinerary is where Vietnam really opens up, giving you enough time to combine two regions without feeling rushed:

Sample 7-Day Plan - Danang, Hoi An & Phu Quoc

  1. Day 1: Arrive Danang, check in, beach evening
  2. Day 2: Bana Hills cable car ride and Golden Bridge
  3. Day 3: Hoi An Ancient Town and Coconut Basket boat tour
  4. Day 4: Fly to Phu Quoc, check in
  5. Day 5: Vinwonders and Grand World
  6. Day 6: Cable car ride, Kiss Bridge, Duong Dong Market
  7. Day 7: Free time, departure

This closely mirrors Royal Arabian's 5N/6D "Between Lantern Lights and Island Skies" package, which can be extended by a day or two on either end.

Alternative 7-Day Plan - Hanoi, Danang & Ho Chi Minh City

  1. Day 1-2: Hanoi (Old Quarter, Temple of Literature, Water Puppet Show)
  2. Day 3-4: Danang (Bana Hills, Golden Bridge) and Hoi An day trip
  3. Day 5-6: Ho Chi Minh City (Cu Chi Tunnels, war history sites)
  4. Day 7: Departure

This mirrors Royal Arabian's 5N/6D "From Peaceful Bays to Vibrant City Lights" package, which can be stretched to a full 7 days with an extra night in each city.

Beyond 7 Days: 8-11 Day Itineraries

If you have more time, Vietnam rewards a true north-to-south trip. Royal Arabian's longer itineraries include:

  • Vietnam Explorer (8N/9D): Hanoi, Sapa, and Danang - adds Ninh Binh, Cat Cat Village, and the Fansipan cable car to the classic city-and-beach route
  • Vietnam Odyssey (10N/11D): Hanoi, Halong Bay, Danang, and Ho Chi Minh City - the fullest single trip, covering the Mekong Delta and Cu Chi Tunnels alongside the north's cultural highlights

These longer itineraries generally offer the best cost-per-day, since flights and visa costs are spread across more sightseeing. See the full cost breakdown in our Vietnam tour package cost from India guide.
